The Law

All wild birds in the UK (including their nests and eggs), are protected by Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Under this law, it is an offence for any person to intentionally kill, injure or take any wild bird and use traps or similar items to kill, injure or take wild birds.

The penalties which can be imposed for criminal offences is an unlimited fine, up to six months imprisonment or both.

I called the office and spoke to a nice lady who kindly put me in touch with one of their pest controllers. He called me and arranged a visit. When he was at our house he listened with patience to our problem with moles and then rats, he also gave me his contact number so I could let him know how things were going. He was very thorough and made sure enough mole traps and bait boxes were in place. The problem has now been resolved. We are very pleased.
